Nothing ever lasts forever

Haircut 100 Pelican West album cover

Collection 2, for Spring / Summer 2022, was partly inspired by 1980s prep, and this yacht rock heavy mixtape was conceived as an accompaniment to perusal of the collection. The past few years have been bleak and we’ve reached the end of our ability to comprehend complexity and misery.

So, the theme is smooth, jazzy, and anodyne; the sort of thing to listen to while wearing breezy linen on deck. We have Haircut 100’s Love Plus One which contains our favorite lyrics in a love song, ever: “ay ay ay ay ay ah.” There’s anthemic Sussudio which makes us think we can be Masters of the Universe. There’s genre-defining I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do) which makes us just want to lie in the sun to the sound of lapping waves, or at least sway gently in our chair with our eyes closed. No heavy emotion, no complexity, just sunshine charm and sophistication. Substance is overrated.
