The cropped silhouette is a restoration. Its lineage began with the Spencer jacket of the 1790s—a tailcoat shortened for the saddle and favored by cavalry officers—and evolved into the Ike jacket of WWII, engineered for mechanized infantry who needed snag-free movement.
By contrast, the standard lounge suit was a Victorian compromise, cut long to conceal the waistlines of sedentary industrialists. Our cropped suits reject that concealment and return, deliberately, to the functional geometry of the soldier.
